Italy's most ambitious sustainable hotel opened in Rimini in October 2024. From the moment guests enter the lobby, they feel the difference that acoustic design makes. Six BuzziSpace solutions were there to make that happen.

Let's be direct: noise is the enemy of great hospitality. You can spend a fortune on hand-selected stone, bespoke furniture, and considered lighting, and then fill the space with unchecked reverberation that drives every guest straight back to their room. It's one of the most common and costly mistakes in hotel design. MODE Eco Mood Hotel in Rimini's San Giuliano Mare district refused to make it.
Conceived by hospitality visionary Mauro Santinato and the team at Teamwork Hospitality, MODE is a living laboratory, a radical reimagining of what a sustainable hotel can look, feel, and sound like. Thirteen leading Italian architecture studios each took ownership of a space. Six BuzziSpace acoustic solutions were selected to anchor the lobby and coworking areas. The result is a hotel that doesn't just look exceptional. It sounds exceptional, too.

The premise of MODE Eco Mood Hotel is simple and confrontational in equal measure: what if a hotel could prove that sustainable design doesn't just reduce harm, it creates a better experience? Not a compromise. Not a reduction. A genuine upgrade.
Thirteen studios. Thirteen interpretations of the same brief. One unified answer: yes, it's possible. Ocean-sourced materials became floor coverings. Recycled textiles became acoustic felt. Air-purifying moss was embedded into wall installations. Every material selection in the building had to justify itself environmentally and aesthetically, and both criteria carried equal weight.
"Awareness. This is the key word for today's and tomorrow's tourism, understood as an increased consciousness of sustainable travel both in choosing accommodations that align with sustainability principles and in people's purchasing behaviors that favor low environmental impact products and solutions. MODE HOTEL is a response to this need and aims to be a hub of innovation both in terms of eco-sustainable design and hotel management."
That ethos set the bar for every product in the building. BuzziSpace acoustic solutions didn't just meet it, they embodied it. Each product is manufactured with sustainability at its core: recycled PET fibres, responsible production, and designs built to outlast trends by decades.
The lobby at MODE is not a transitional space. It's a destination. Tiled floors in sage and cream, BuzziSkin Printed wallcovering establishing the botanical visual language, BuzziPleat Light pendants clustered overhead, BuzziCube seating in terracotta and mint, BuzziPlanters grounding the composition in living green. Acoustic design as total environment, not bolted on, but built in.
The coworking space — MODE's GEA environment — presented a different challenge. A room that needs to hold productive energy without becoming oppressive. Where conversations can happen without bleeding into each other. Where focus and collaboration coexist. BuzziSpace solutions delivered on every count.

Each BuzziSpace solution at MODE was chosen because it could do two things simultaneously: perform at a high acoustic level and contribute meaningfully to the visual character of the space. In a building where every object earns its place, that standard was non-negotiable.
Deployed across the circulation spaces and stairwells, BuzziMood biophilic acoustic wall panels combine preserved living moss with sculpted felt elements to create wall installations that are simultaneously artwork, acoustic treatment, and natural therapy. The result is dramatic: bold geometric shapes in terracotta, cobalt, and coral felt paired with circular moss panels, composing gallery walls that guests slow down to take in on every floor. The moss is maintenance-free, no water, no light required, and remains alive and effective indefinitely.
Across multiple floors at MODE, BuzziMood panels were arranged into larger gallery-style compositions, mixing oversized rectangular moss panels with circular felt forms and angular geometric shapes in complementary tones. Every transition through the building is punctuated by a moment of visual and sensory contrast. Guests don't just pass through, they pause.
Look up in the MODE lobby and the BuzziPleat Light does something extraordinary: it commands the entire ceiling plane. These accordion-pleated felt pendant lights, clustered in formation and floating above the space, are acoustic luminaires that simultaneously illuminate and absorb. Each globe-lit, fan-shaped pendant is constructed from dense recycled felt, radiating outward in pleated segments that scatter and absorb sound across the full surface area. In terracotta, sand, and charcoal, they read as sculptural ceiling installations while working invisibly as acoustic infrastructure overhead.
BuzziCube brought the acoustic logic down to floor level. These modular felt cubes, with their distinctive faceted geometric surface, do exactly what great hospitality seating should: they invite people to sit, flex to any arrangement, and quietly contribute to the room's overall acoustic performance through their dense felt upholstery. At MODE, BuzziCubes in terracotta and sage mirror the colour palette established by BuzziMood on the walls above, creating a visually unified, acoustically consistent environment from floor to ceiling.
BuzziPlanters brought living green into the acoustic toolkit. Constructed from acoustic materials, they define zones within the open-plan lobby while their material construction contributes to the room's sound management. At MODE, BuzziPlanters in terracotta and sage anchor the floor plan, acting as soft spatial dividers that feel entirely natural to the biophilic design language running through the building.
Perhaps the most arresting product in the entire installation: BuzziSkin Printed brought full-bleed photographic wallcovering to the stairwells, immersive tropical botanicals that transform circulation routes into experiences. BuzziSkin is an adhesive wallcovering made from recycled felt, which means the lush jungle imagery wrapping the staircase is not just visual drama, it's actively absorbing sound at every surface it covers. Guests see a rainforest. The physics sees a sound absorber. That is acoustic design at its most elegant.
The hospitality industry is finally having an honest conversation about acoustics, and the numbers are not flattering. Noise consistently ranks among the top complaints in guest reviews. Excessive reverberation in lobbies and shared spaces makes guests uncomfortable, shortens dwell time, and suppresses the very behaviours, lingering, socialising, spending, that make a hotel commercially successful.
The economic equation is straightforward: guests who feel genuinely at ease in well-designed shared spaces stay longer, spend more, and return. Acoustic investment doesn't show up on a mood board, but it shows up on the bottom line.
At MODE, the acoustic brief and the sustainability brief were the same brief. Every BuzziSpace solution is manufactured using recycled content, designed for longevity, and built to meet rigorous acoustic performance standards. The BuzziSkin Printed wallcovering is recycled felt. The BuzziPleat Light pendants are constructed from recycled BuzziFelt. The BuzziMood moss is preserved naturally. There is no trade-off between environmental responsibility and acoustic performance here. They are the same commitment, expressed in material form.
This is what it looks like when acoustic design is taken seriously from the very beginning. Not a retrofit. Not a compromise. A building where every surface is doing its job, visually, acoustically, and sustainably and the guest never has to think about any of it. They just feel it.
